Listen and Follow Directions

Isaac was Abraham’s only son and he loved him very much which makes this test found in Genesis 22 extremely difficult. Reading in this passage, God told Abraham to take his only son and sacrifice him on a mountain in the region of Moriah (v. 2).

Abraham following through with the directions God gave him even though he probably thought of every reason not to. Instead, he carried out the instructions from God and at the last minute, the angel of the Lord told Abraham not to lay a hand on Isaac (v. 12). Abraham had passed the test.

Above anything else, God wants us to love Him, listen to Him, and follow His directions. He will reward us if we treat our treasure as though we are willing to offer it to Him. Lord, this day with You, we offer our treasure to You. Use our treasure to bless others beyond their wildest dreams. Amen!

About Mark Shields

Mark volunteers as a member of the media ministry team at his church. A few years ago, he started an on-line Bible study guide called “This Day with God Devotional”. He uses this as a tool in his journey through the Bible. We live in a very busy world with busy schedules so this tool has helped him continue with daily Bible reading and study. Each of the studies are designed to help apply our faith in the work place, at school, or at home. Join him on this journey or check in every so often to read his thoughts.
