An Amazing Future in His Presence

Jacob was told by Isaac in Genesis 28 to go find a wife among the daughters of Laban, his mother’s brother. On his way, he had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven (v. 12). In the dream, God promises Jacob and his descendants the land on which he was lying.

Jacob woke up and responded with praise toward God. He described the land as the gate of heaven and marked the place with the stone he had used as a pillow. He poured oil on the stone, set it up as a memorial pillar, and called the place Bethel which means “the house of God”

From this point, he became a changed man and got right with God. He asked that God remain in his presence as he continued his journey; providing food, clothing, and safety. He also promises to give back to God a tenth of what was given.

This day with God, give all the praise to Him because from this point forward, we can count on Him to bless us with the joy of an amazing future. We are right with God and because when we are right with God, we are right with those we go through life with.

With God’s guidance through His Word, we stay on track and headed in the right direction. Like Jacob who marked the place with a stone, mark this day as the turning point to an amazing future in God’s presence.

About Mark Shields

Mark volunteers as a member of the media ministry team at his church. A few years ago, he started an on-line Bible study guide called “This Day with God Devotional”. He uses this as a tool in his journey through the Bible. We live in a very busy world with busy schedules so this tool has helped him continue with daily Bible reading and study. Each of the studies are designed to help apply our faith in the work place, at school, or at home. Join him on this journey or check in every so often to read his thoughts.
