Detailed Instructions

Within Exodus 29:1-37 are detailed instructions for the offerings to be made as sacrifice to consecrate the priests. A young bull and two rams without blemish were to be sacrificed as a sin offering. Also, loaves of bread of wheat flour with olive oil mixed in were made as an offering. There was certain clothing to be worn and specific instructions as the ceremony was carried out.

Aaron and his sons identified with each offering by laying their hands on them. By offering sacrifices, people could then approach God. Today, we identify with Christ as our sin offering and the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Since Christ came and died on the Cross, we have a direct relationship with God by accepting Christ into our life; taking note of His teachings and applying them in how we live.

By reading God’s Word, we get specific instructions in how to live. When we pray or worship, our attitude should be of reverence and obedience toward God. God’s principles never change. A daily devotional time using a devotional like “This Day with God” internalizes His guiding principles and can become an instrument which pushes us to focus on Him in every activity throughout our day.

This day You Lord, help us to stay focused on Your presence. Lord, we know that You speak in various ways – visions, dreams, and life’s circumstances; even ideas from others. Most of all, You speak through the Bible. We expect Your presence all the time since You can be present in the things we read, the experiences we go through, or the people we meet. Lord, Your are not distant but near. We can click on the Internet through our computer or phone and be reminded of Your amazing truths. We are thankful for Your presence throughout this day. Amen.

About Mark Shields

Mark volunteers as a member of the media ministry team at his church. A few years ago, he started an on-line Bible study guide called “This Day with God Devotional”. He uses this as a tool in his journey through the Bible. We live in a very busy world with busy schedules so this tool has helped him continue with daily Bible reading and study. Each of the studies are designed to help apply our faith in the work place, at school, or at home. Join him on this journey or check in every so often to read his thoughts.
